MY ENCOUNTERS

FIRST TOUCH

Every other day squirrels will be seen. While walking roadside they cross our path, we go out for park they appear , go to trip they will be seen. Wherever trees , they jump into sight. My eyes were happy, but my urge to hold them was still unfulfilled.

One fine day, dream came true. I was pursuing my postgraduation in MD Respiratory Medicine in Bangalore Medical College, Victoria Hospital, Bangalore. It was OPD day, till 4 pm, finished the duty hours, heading back to wards. Ours was 6 story building. The moment I came out of building, a light ‘thud’ sound was heard. Looked around. A little squirrel was on the ground. Realised that this is the reason for sound, could have fallen from 1st or 2nd floor. Rushed towards it. It wasn’t moving, lying unconscious. Took it in hand. It was breathing. Moved my fingers over the back. Touched the bushy tail. The soft skin…amazing to touch. Few minutes, it recovered . Started moving, while I still hold it in my hand. Thankfully it was not scared. It stayed in my palms. I was extremely satisfied. It’s activities came to normal. Started moving above my shoulders, back and backpack. Able to get some lifetime pictures, thanks to colleague Sounanya. Finally it started jumping. Willing to go home, jumped off and hopped towards a tree. Took it little far from the building, will it be accepted by its new friends?!!! Anyways it recovered from fall. The day was blessed. Will I get them to hold again!! One more time please.
